Direct Care Staff
Job Type: Full-time / Part-time
Reports To: Service Coordinator / Manager of Residential Services
Scope of Responsibility: Under direct supervision of the appropriate Service Coordinator, the Resident Support Staff performs and supports all services for individuals residing at St. John’s Villa according to their Individual Service Plan (ISP). The Resident Support Staff will provide a positive and rewarding home-like experience while following all guidelines as set forth through St. John’s Villa, The State of Ohio DODD, and the Carroll County Board of DD. The Resident Support Staff is responsible for upholding and practicing the policies, philosophy, and mission statement of St. John’s Villa in a professional manner at all times.
Required: High School Graduate or G.E.D. Equivalent or state-approved waiver of extension. Completion of the State Levelup Program within 1 year after the 2-year D.D. experience is confirmed, a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance, or a signed waiver of exemption not to drive or transport residents and wage adjustment if you do not have a License and Insurance. If you are not currently certified as a Med. Tech. / Delegated Nursing, you will be required to get the certification as soon as it can be scheduled after your 90-day probationary period. The cost of the training will be covered by St. John’s Villa.
Special Abilities:
- Maintains positive interpersonal skills and open lines of communication with all staff persons, supervisors, and individuals served.
- Acts as a positive role model for the individuals served.
Work Hours:
- Resident Support Staff will be scheduled to work 1 of 3 different shifts, pending staffing needs. Due to the requirement of providing coverage 24/7 and 365 days per year for our individuals, you may be scheduled for a day, afternoon, or midnight shift. Working holidays and at least every other weekend are required for this position.
Prior Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience in the direct care services with developmentally disabled Adults is preferred.
Duties Include:
- Assist Residents with the Hygiene needs as indicated by their Individual Service Plan.
- Deal with behavioral issues as explained in their Behavior Support Plan (BSP).
- Completion of all housekeeping tasks, including: cooking, cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, making beds, dusting, etc. Encourage residents’ participation with the completion of the listed tasks.
- Driving individuals to community-based outings/activities using an SJV vehicle only, no personal vehicles.
- Assist with daily activities such as hygiene needs, mealtime needs, walking, transferring from wheelchairs, beds, etc. Employees will be able to lift a minimum of 65lbs to be able to assist in lifting or transferring any individuals.
- Documentation of all services by completing ISP data sheets and work assignments check sheets.
- Stay up to date by reviewing any memos and the communication books regularly.
- Work with other departments to achieve common goals for St John’s Villa and the residential programs.
- Monitor to ensure appropriate supervision for the health and safety of all Residents assigned.
- Communicate any safety concerns, needed equipment, or supplies to the Service Coordinator.
- Participates, as requested, for ISP and/or BSP meetings for the purpose of the individual’s program development.
- Follows all ISP and/or BSP plans within the Residential Services area.
- Attends staff meetings and training sessions as assigned or for Licensure accreditation.
- Reports all major or extraordinary illnesses, accidents, or incidents related to the physical and mental well-being of the Residents to the Service Coordinator. Completing an Incident Report(s) as needed.
- Maintain the confidentiality of individuals residing at St. John’s Villa.
- Model appropriate behavior at all times in the presence of individuals served.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Report any injury to yourself to the Service Coordinator and complete the incident report for BWC.
